Inside the Spring Workshop: Handmade Leather and Shearling Bags, Craft & New Calfskin Launch

Spring always brings a restless kind of energy to the workshop. It’s not a reset, it’s momentum. In our Kent workshop, where we design and make handmade leather and shearling bags, everything starts moving a little faster. Ideas evolve quickly, materials take shape, and the design process continues, because it never really stops.

The Design Process Never Stops

There’s a misconception that collections follow a strict seasonal rhythm, but for us, design is ongoing. We’re always developing, refining, and thinking ahead, sometimes as far as next year’s collections, even looking towards launches as distant as September 27.

Sometimes we create something and feel too excited to wait. Instead of holding it back for pre-winter or a future collection, we want to share it immediately. That’s the beauty of running our independent workshop, and being all under one roof. There’s freedom to move when something feels right.

A New Direction: Calfskin Leather Bags

Right now, that excitement is centred around calfskin. Left with the hair on, it has the most beautiful sheen. We’ve been exploring this material for its soft structure, durability, and elevated finish that make it ideal for everyday luxury leather bags.

We’re especially excited to be exclusively launching the Small Ghia Shoulder Bag in calfskin on our website in early summer. It’s a compact leather handbag designed for day and evening use, combining easy function with a refined, tactile feel. The perfect statement accessory for invisible hands free wear.

It’s one of those pieces that didn’t feel like it should wait.

Preparing for a Busy Production Season

While new designs are developing, the workshop is also focused on preparation. Spring is when everything behind the scenes comes into place ahead of a busy production season.

Matt, our trainee cutter is currently learning quality control, building the knowledge needed to ensure every item made meets our standards before it leaves the workshop.

At the same time, all of our machines are being carefully serviced in-house. It’s a hands-on process that keeps our production running smoothly and maintains the level of craftsmanship we expect.

Patterns are also being graded by my Dad, a crucial step in ensuring consistency across sizes and styles as we move into larger production runs. It’s detailed, precise work, quietly shaping everything that comes next.

Looking Ahead: New Collection Shoot & Pre-Season Previews

We’re also looking ahead to our upcoming shoot, where new designs begin to take on a life beyond the workshop. It’s always a turning point when ideas, materials, and craftsmanship come together visually.

We’ll be sharing a few pre-season tasters soon, offering an early glimpse of what’s to come before the full collection launches.

Spring in the workshop is about energy, instinct, and craftsmanship. It’s about designing handmade leather and shearling in England, with care and intention, while sometimes breaking our own rules when something feels too good to wait.
